Art is all around us. They are the things people create for others to see and appreciate. Art is not just paintings and sculptures you see in museums. They include forms of art created for everyday use, like a pattern on wallpaper or a study lamp for your desk. In some cultures, young people learn to create and appreciate art by watching adults create it. Most students in industrialized countries today study art in school. as you are doing now. This activity will help you to understand and appreciate many kinds of art. It will help you to develop your skills in creating art-expressing feelings that cannot be put into words. Some of the artworks that you will study are important records of history. You might find some of them so inspiring and imaginative that you will never forget them. You will also learn to see how many ways art is part of your everyday life. As you look around the room, it is on the walls, the clothes you are wearing, the computer screen that you are looking at and it affects every aspect of your life. It is sometimes overlooked.
As for the artist they express their feelings or thoughts through arts. And some of them want to influence another people or they want others to be hooked by their artworks. Yet, art can often become dangerously and explicitly political and serve as a powerful weapon. Throughout the history of social movements and social revolt, art has always reacted against oppression, violence, injustice and inequalities. Addressing socio-political issues and challenging the traditional boundaries and hierarchies imposed by those in power, art can open up the space for the marginalized to be seen and heard and contribute to the social change by producing knowledge and solidarity or simply raising awareness. In this way, the personal life and work of the artist transcends the individual and speak meaningfully to a larger audience bringing together the political and human functions of art. Arts can catch the attention of the citizens that’s why artist used them as a visual statement or argumentation.
As a student I can say that being an artist is not easy because you need a lot of imagination, inspiration and courage to make an artwork. And of course you need to be creative to hook the attention of your chosen audience or the people you will influence. Especially when you are using an artwork as the mouth of people who have experienced a very traumatic happening. Artwork is not just an art, it can help, inspire, and be a mind opener to other people especially to the government.
